Thomas Makris, from the Island of Skopelos, fell in love when he met Helen Babalos. They met at Orestes Greek restaurant in 1974, while on a Greek dancing tour of North America. Soon after their marriage, they had a vision to open a place like no other in Vancouver; a Greek restaurant where everyone is family; where everyone receives a consistent experience created by delicious homemade authentic food and impeccable service. In 1984 they opened Anatoli Souvlaki in north Vancouver. In 2011 their sons Alexi and Iani took over the restaurant and early 2015 they expanded on their parents original dream, Alexi and Iani opened ‘The Greek by Anatoli’ in Yaletown. ‘The Greek by Anatoli’ focuses on small share plates or “mezze”.

Here at Nuba, we offer authentic, healthy Mediterranean & Lebanese cuisine in harmony and rhythm with modern times. We seek out the freshest ingredients—organic and local when available—and handpick them daily. A large portion of our menu is vegan and gluten free. All meats are halal, non-medicated, and hormone free. Our original recipes have been passed down through several generations, and sincerely nurtured. While the cornerstones of the menu remain unchanged for over a century, many recipes have evolved through time and travel into a beautiful balance of traditional and contemporary cuisine. Nuba Underground, the original Nuba restaurant, was inspired by an independent and modern Beirut during the 1940s. At Nuba in Gastown we offer the same menu at lunch that made us famous for fresh and flavourful food. After 5 p.m. the lights dim and Nuba’s nightly adventures begin with an evening menu that captures the traditional Lebanese style of sharing with new and innovative dishes.
WHO ARE WE?We’re the second generation of two Greek families that came to Canada to open some of Vancouver’s longest running restaurants. Now, we’re taking everything we’ve learned from them to offer a brand new dining experience.WHAT ARE WE ABOUT?Loula’s is the Greek nostalgia of our upbringing infused with modern dining trends that have intrigued us. The atmosphere and cuisine are an homage to our namesake, a woman dear to our hearts who always leaves you in good spirits with a full stomach. Expect that overwhelmingly authentic Greek experience when you step through our doors—along with a few other things you won’t expect. You’ll just have to trust us.WHERE ARE WE?We’re located in the heart of Commercial drive, a spot we feel quite at home in. If you know anything about The Drive, you know it’s warm, vivacious and a little kooky. Just like Loula.
Opening their first location in the spring of 1984, Helen Babalos & Thomas Makris brought us Anatoli Souvlaki. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. They were able to create a North Vancouver staple, a successful thriving restaurant based on faithful patrons and a reputation that has been passed through generations. In 2011, the family-run restaurant was taken over by their
sons Alexi and Iani. In 2015, the brothers, alongside their cousin Daniel Bergman, expanded on
their parent’s dream by opening The Greek in Yaletown, with a focus on mezze-style dining.
Now open in Gastown. The Greek is a reinterpretation of the North Shore's iconic Anatoli Souvlaki.
