Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022.Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Tocolo Cantina serves refined, modern Mexican food in a friendly, high-service, and casual atmosphere. The restaurant space was designed to merge the modern elements of a California eatery with those of a Mexican cantina to create a warm and inviting feel. It is fit with encaustic tile, copper walls, a lively bar in the center of the room, and a hydraulic garage door that forms an outdoor canopy when opened. We aim to provide the best Modern Mexican dining experience on Long Island.
Our menu incorporates both traditional Mexican fare and our own modern interpretations of customary dishes. The menu's mix of small and large plates, as well as its two large communal dining tables, hopes to inspire long celebrations over food.
