Inspired by the layered cultures of Sri Lanka and England, Colombo House, formerly known as Colombo 16, presents a modern table of Sri Lanka at Marine Court — the Grade II–listed Art Deco landmark overlooking St Leonards-on-Sea.

By night, the menu focuses on contemporary dinners, with curries, short eats, and desserts designed for sharing. On Sundays, Colombo House opens for brunch and lunch, offering relaxed sharing platters alongside Sri Lankan favourites.

Our cooking is rooted in family recipes, reimagined through a modern, ingredient-led approach — sourcing locally while importing key produce weekly from Sri Lanka.

The drinks list champions locally sourced coffee, tea, soft drinks, craft beers, ciders, and artisanal spirits. Our wine list has been carefully curated to complement the bold, nuanced flavours of the food, in collaboration with local wine merchants Artis Vin, Ridge & Bard of Hastings.

My Italian grandparents came from Abruzzo to England in 1946, just after the war. As you can imagine, it was not very popular being Italian at that time however, they settled eventually in Polegate near Eastbourne and just over the hill from Poco in Alfriston.

I used to leave school everyday at 3pm and walk to my Nonna's house and stay there until my Mum finished work. My Nonna never spoke English all the 38 years she lived in Polegate but she had her Ragu going on the stove all that time. The left overs would go back in and the sugo was the same stock for at least 20 years.

As a little boy I would not be allowed to eat the Tiramisu but Nonna would let me lick the bowl of mascarpone. She taught me to cook from the age of 6. I remember she gave me, what I thought at the time was a machete (normal kithcen knife) to cut tomatoes. She had her own little veg garden and showed me the importance of cooking dishes seasonally to reflect what was growing at the time.

Het eten in The Fig is werkelijk verrukkelijk. Originele gerechten met rijke smaken. Niet twijfelen maar gewoon lekker gaan genieten.

We make British food with a classic or modern slant. We source our ingredients from the local fields, woodlands and waters. Everything is cooked on the premises, including the bread and the icecreams.
The Good Food Guide (2023) says: "A fittingly quaint old building, complete with original features, given a suave modern twist via grey panelling and contemporary furniture. Chef-proprietor Martin Peacock has built his menu on classical French traditions and impeccable sourcing and there’s real creativity and originality on show here. The international wine list offers a decent but not overlong selection, with accessible pricing."

Vegetarian: we will always offer at least one starter and one main vegetarian choice. However, we cannot cater for vegans and if you have a life threatening food intolerance we (and our insurance company) are unable to take the booking.

Heel lekker gegeten at Landgate bistro! Vriendelijk ontvangst, gezellig verlichte ruimte (minder kil dan op de foto's), en alle gerechten waren heel lekker. grote porties (zeker vleesgerecht en kaas achteraf!) Wij genoten van een perfect advondje uit!
