Donald McIsaac erected this beautiful three storey brick building in 1862-1864 on Sims Corner, so called because the property had been in the possession of Thomas and Charlotte Alchorn Sims from 1806. The most colourful owner and occupant of the building was Mr. P.P. Gillis, who ran the “Red Pharmacy” between 1895 and 1910. A drug-store in the front half of the building and a reputed conviviality shop in the rear, proved very popular with local businessmen while prohibition was in effect. This location has also been a large family home, apartments and a barber shop. In the fall of 2005 local restaurateur Murphy's purchased the building and began the process of renovating to create what you are experiencing today. Murphy Hospitality Group is proud to present you with Prince Edward Island’s first authentic Steakhouse, and “Atlantic Canada’s Premier Steakhouse Experience”.

    The food is always amazing and presented well..the restaurant is cozy and iconic My husband had the oysters and they were to die for , nice selection of sauces to accompany them. We shared the wedge salad, its was so fresh crisp and tasty.followed by the burger which was absolutely mouthwatering. The waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable of the drinks and menu we didn’t feel rushed at all. It’s our second time there and we plan to return.

    The outstanding quality and taste of our dishes was only exceeded by the service provided by our wonderful waitress. Her attention to detail, presentation, and friendliness was truly remarkable. Merchantman is very fortunate to have her on staff. All the best. Reinhardt Pirch

    Great facility, service was fantastic considering it was Canadian Thanksgiving and our server was covering the whole facility. The food quality was excellent, with many offerings included fresh seafood and gave us a wide choice menu. The wine list was superior, many fine choices at average prices. The dining area was very open and comfortable, we got to choice our own table. Overall this was a wonderful choice for an optional "Canadian Thanksgiving" brunch (1pm).
