We had a selection of mezes, main course each, shared two desserts, and two of us had cocktails. Everything was tasty and a good size portion. Our server was so patient - we hadn’t seen each other in a while so it took us a moment to focus on the menu! Nice to be in a restaurant with tablecloths and enough soft furnishings to absorb the sound. It was the first meal we’d eaten out in quite a while when we didn’t have to shout to be heard by our dining companions. We’ve eaten here before and we will certainly return.

It was relaxing (we were inside); service was excellent. The salmon was very good. The lamb chops were varied. One was very good. One was all fat. I couldn’t eat it.

The menu is chock full of tasty Greek specialties that are well prepared and presented. The spanakopita was scrumptious and the salmon carpaccio was excellent. Their lamb shank was incredibly tender and fell off the bone with mild fork pressure. Tried a very nice dry Greek grape white wine. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend a visit,

Definitely up there with the best of other Greek/Aegean places in Bay Area and undisputed king of price/performance. You will not regret it.

Although I’ve been very satisfied with Barbayani in all my previous visits, last night’s dinner was marred by many missteps. The calamari appetizer didn’t smell fresh, and was greasy, over breaded, and didn’t have much actual calamari—it seemed to be mostly crisped bits of the dredging mixture. My companion had asked that the calamari plate be removed, but it took a while for that to get done. We then had an uncharacteristically long wait to receive our entrees, and one entree was a completely mistaken order. Although the tuna in my entree was good, it would have been better served on a flat plate so it wouldn’t collect all the liquids from the accompaniments. Also, the description of that entree was confusing: I asked that braised greens be subbed for the couscous, thinking I’d also get the tomatoes and olives that came with it, but those were actually part of the couscous. It should be made more obvious that the tomatoes and olives are part of the couscous preparation. We’ve eaten here many times with the other couple who were our guests, and have always enjoyed our experience, but this was a night gone wrong.
